8 Sets of 8 Fat Burning Workout
June 3rd, 2007 · Filed Under: Fat Loss Workouts
For the past 4 years I have been incorporating 8 Sets Of 8 into my workout program and every time I complete the 4 weeks of training I am amazed at how incredibly effective it is for not only burning fat but I always seem to add a bit of muscle during this phase as well. Believe me, I’m not the only one who has experienced tremendous fat burning results from this program. Does the name Arnold Schwarzenegger ring a bell?
Yes you heard me right. Arnold was just a huge slab of meat before he used the 8 sets of 8 workout program. He was introduced to the program by it’s creator, Vince Gironda. Vince was known to help bodybuilders achieve the definition and ‘cuts’ that are necessary to win a contest, especially the Mr. Olympia.
Now you can take advantage of this amazing program to chisel away the fat from the muscle and sculpt a masterpiece. The great thing about 8 sets of 8 is that it’s very time efficient. I’m in and out of the gym in less than 30 minutes tops when I follow this program.
In order to get the maximum results from the program you have to perform the routine properly. I’ve put together a video which demonstrates the proper way to do 8 sets of 8.
The key is choosing the right amount of weight. This is what separates the people who are willing to do what it takes to achieve a sculpted physique from the ones who are ego driven and are obsessed with stacking large amounts of weight on a bar. Check your ego at the door guys.
The weight that you lift in the 8 sets of 8 program is much lighter than what you would typically lift for the exercise. In this program you choose a weight for a particular exercise and you use that same weight for all 8 sets.
To really maximize this type of training you should use a rest period of 15 to 45 seconds between sets. Believe me, your heart will be thumping, your muscles will be pumping, and you will be sweating buckets, especially on leg day.
I guarantee that I am getting a better cardiovascular workout on this program than everyone on the treadmill or stepper.
Typically I will choose 3 exercises for the major body parts and 2 for the smaller body parts and I work no more than 2 body parts per day.
Whether you are a male or female, if you want to burn fat this is definitely a program that you want to use for 4-6 weeks of your fat burning phase.
8 sets of 8 workouts are included in the year of workouts for The Fit Bastard along with 11 different workout programs. I have received tremendous feedback from the members that have followed the 8 sets of 8 routine and I know you will get incredible results as well.
Enjoy the workouts and have a tremendous day!!!

Nice article here. I never thought of decreasing the time rest. Maybe I was too distracted on adding weights on every sets. Anyway , thx for sharing and cute kids you have =)

Thanks for the comments Ben. Decreasing the rest time is a great way to increase intensity in your workout and produces some amazing results.
It’s easy to want to load on the weight when you see every other guy around you doing that. I simply check my ego at the door and go with what works best for my body rather than worry about what others may think of how much I’m lifting.
Love my kids man! It’s why I do what I do. I’ve got to be the best role model for them.
Keep working hard buddy!

Hi Scott,
I am 43 years old, and i am a bodybuilder ( rookie), i would like to build lean muscle and loose my fat, specially in my belly. I am trying to loose weight, but what happens is that i loose volume in my arms ( my favourite muscles), but not in the belly. i am 180 pounds, 1,75m. At the moment i am eating kind of diet made of fresh pineapple and papaya, i take this to my work and drink 2 liters every day. Can these 2 fruits help me to loose my fat in my belly?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Scott ! You really rocks man ! I’m a personal trainer too, here in Belgium, and I love your mindset. You’re not only a “fitness maniac”, who only is interested in his physique, like many others are… Fitness is a way of life, and you and your familly are a great example of success. Congrats !

Heya.
Just one thing hits my head, do you plan on working every muscle group of the day if you are like going 8 sets, won’t the exhaustion come sooner that way? I mean in terms of preserving lean muscle mass, is your 8X8 strategy feasible?

Just one question about a routine like this: Doing 4 workouts a week and splitting the body parts up as you have above means that each muscle group only gets stimulated once a week.
Would there be any downsides if i combined two days into one workout and still did 4 days a week? So I’d be doing 2 workouts in each day so i can get twice as much done in one week.

Tried to access the You Tube video for 8 sets of 8 - says it’s no longer available - is there anywhere else that i can access it?

Great video. I recently changed my rest time between sets and different excercises. I started super setting and went from resting 60 seconds to resting 15-20 seconds between not only sets but also excercises.
One question. You mention in the video working chest and biceps and then back and triceps together. Doesn’t working chest also stimulate triceps and back does same for biceps? So, shouldn’t I work these together? That’s pretty much how I’ve always done it when I’ve combined body parts.
thanks for the info Scott. The site is great and the info is very useful.
